A lot of comments during the 2008 Shot Show and many from chat rooms has led to the development of the Boberg XR9 Shorty. The second "photo" was generated via Photoshop, and at the time it was not known whether such a configuration would be feasible. Further study has shown that the design is feasible and a prototype will most likely be built soon. After having looked over these images, and you have a preference for which gun should be offered first and would like your voice heard, please vote in The High Road (THR) poll (you may have to register if you are not a subscriber to THR): http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4230310&posted=1#post4230310
Below are the CAD renderings of the standard XR9 and the Shorty.
The 9mm Shorty is 4.99" long (roughly the size of a Beretta .32 Tomcat) and has a 3.3" barrel. Capacity is still 7+1.
It was suggested that the Boberg XR9 Shorty be compared to a more popular gun, such as the Kel-tec P38T. The gun in blue is actually the Boberg XR9 "Micro". It has 6+1 capacity in 9mm, so the grip is about .30" shorter than either the XR9 or the XR9 Shorty. While the XR9 Micro is shorter in overall length, it will be heavier and slightly thicker than the P3AT. However, the XR9 micro will be able to deliver up to 480 ft-lbs of energy, more than double the energy of the P3AT.
The XR9 micro in blue is being compared to the Rohrbaugh R9S in red, which is 5.2" long with a 2.9" barrel. The Rohrbaugh was chosen because of its reputation as being "smallest of the small" in 9mm.
Here is an overlay comparing the XR9 Full-size, the XR9 Shorty and the XR9 Micro.
The red extension represents the grip of the XR9 Full-Size and the Shorty. Don't forget to vote: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4230310&posted=1#post4230310 |
